Honeymoon Safari Tanzania: From the Serengeti to the Indian Ocean

A private safari followed by Zanzibar's white sand. No shared vehicles. No group itinerary. Just the two of you, a dedicated guide, and East Africa doing what it does best.

Most honeymoon safaris we design follow the same arc: four or five days in the bush, watching lions at dawn and drinking sundowners while elephants move across the horizon, followed by three to five days on Zanzibar where the pace drops to almost nothing and the Indian Ocean does the rest.

It works because the contrast is extraordinary. The Serengeti is vast, alive, and intense. Zanzibar is slow, warm, and completely different. Together they make a honeymoon that does not feel like a holiday. It feels like a shift.

What Makes a Westway Honeymoon Different

Completely Private

Your vehicle is yours. Your guide is yours. Your schedule is yours. If you want to stay at a leopard sighting for an hour while the light changes, you stay. If you want a late start because the champagne from last night was better than expected, you start late. There is no group to accommodate. This is your trip.

Romantic Details, Arranged in Advance

We let every lodge and camp know you are on your honeymoon before you arrive. Most will arrange something special: a private dinner setup, flowers in the room, a bottle of something good. Some of the finer camps offer bush dinners under the stars, set up in a clearing with lanterns and a personal waiter. We coordinate all of it so you arrive to moments that feel effortless, even though they were carefully planned.

The Right Lodges for Couples

Not every lodge in Tanzania is suited to a honeymoon. Some are family-oriented with children running around at breakfast. Others are too basic. We recommend properties that strike the right balance: intimate, well-designed, adults-only where possible, with the kind of service that makes you feel genuinely looked after. We know which rooms have the best views. We know which camps light up at sunset. We have stayed at these places ourselves.

Best Months for a Honeymoon Safari

Peak Romance: June to October

Dry season. Clear skies every day. Wildlife congregates around water sources making sightings reliable and dramatic. The Great Migration is in full swing. Zanzibar's weather is perfect. This is peak season so lodges book early, but the conditions are ideal for a honeymoon.

Green Season Value: January to March

The landscape turns emerald green. Calving season brings newborn wildebeest and extraordinary predator action. Fewer tourists. Lower prices at premium lodges, sometimes 30-40% off. The light is exceptional for photography. If you are flexible on dates, this is outstanding value for a honeymoon that feels exclusive.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a honeymoon safari in Tanzania cost?
A private honeymoon safari typically costs $3,500 to $7,000 per person for 7-10 days, depending on lodge tier. This includes private vehicle, guide, all meals, park fees, and transfers. Adding Zanzibar beach days costs roughly $150-$400 per night per couple depending on the resort.
What is the best time for a honeymoon safari?
June to October offers dry weather and excellent wildlife. January to March provides green landscapes, calving drama, and fewer tourists at lower prices. November and early December offer good value with solid viewing. Avoid April-May for guaranteed dry weather.
Can you combine safari with Zanzibar?
Yes, this is our most popular honeymoon combination. 4-5 days of private game drives followed by 3-5 days on Zanzibar's beaches. A short flight connects the Serengeti to Zanzibar, making the transition seamless.
Is a hot air balloon safari worth it for a honeymoon?
Yes. You lift off at dawn over the Serengeti, float silently above lion prides and herds, and land for a champagne breakfast on the plains. It costs roughly $550-$600 per person. For a honeymoon, it is one of the most memorable experiences we can arrange.
