I let every lodge and camp know you are on your honeymoon before you arrive. Most will arrange something special: a private dinner setup, flowers in the room, a bottle of something good. Some of the finer camps offer bush dinners under the stars, set up in a clearing with lanterns and a personal waiter. I coordinate all of it with the camp teams so you arrive to moments that feel effortless, even though they were carefully planned.
The Right Lodges for Couples
Not every lodge in Tanzania suits a honeymoon. Some are family-oriented with children running around at breakfast. Others are too basic. I recommend properties that strike the right balance: intimate, well-designed, adults-only where possible, with the kind of service that makes you feel genuinely looked after. 10 Days: Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Zanzibar
Days 1-2: Tarangire National Park. Arrive Arusha, drive to Tarangire. Massive elephant herds, ancient baobab forests, your first sundowner in the African bush. Stay at an intimate tented camp.
Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater. Drive from Tarangire up to the crater rim, then descend for a full day of wildlife viewing. Black rhino, flamingos, lion prides, buffalo herds. Lunch on the crater floor. Back up to the rim for the night with views across the caldera.
Days 4-6: Serengeti National Park. Drop from the highlands onto the plains for three days in the Serengeti. Morning and afternoon game drives. Lions, cheetah, leopard, the migration if you are here in season. A balloon safari at dawn, at USD 600 per person, if you want one morning that stands apart from the rest. Stay in a premium tented camp positioned for the best wildlife viewing.
Days 7-10: Zanzibar. Fly to Zanzibar, one to two hours by light aircraft from the Serengeti, depending on transit stops. Stone Town for a night, exploring the alleyways and spice markets. Then to a beach resort on the north or east coast. Snorkelling, dhow cruises, or simply doing nothing at all. Depart from Zanzibar.

Best Months for a Honeymoon Safari
Peak Romance: June to October
Dry season. Clear skies most days. Wildlife gathers around water, so sightings are reliable and dramatic. The Great Migration is in full swing and Zanzibar is at its best. Lodges book early, so send me your dates as soon as you have them.
Green Season Value: January to March
The landscape turns emerald green. Calving season brings newborn wildebeest and extraordinary predator action. Fewer vehicles at every sighting. Lodge rates are 20 to 30 percent below peak and the light is exceptional for photography. If your dates are flexible, this is where your investment goes furthest.
